The question as to whether a father is liable to pay damages sustained through the collision of his car, driven by liis daughter, with another car, is to be decided by the Court of Appeal. Right of appeal was yesterday granted to a New Plymouth resident in this position by Mr Justice Reed in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth, with permission to take the case to the Conrt of Appeal. Mr E. D. Andrews, the New Zealand amateur la,wn tennis and racquets player, who is at present living in England, will shortly leave for the East on a business trip. He nvill be absent from England for some months, but he hopes to retum in timo to get some pract-ice before the Wimbledon meeting. Mr Andrews recently became honorary secretary of the Cqvered Cciurts Club at Dtdwich, and it is said he will he greatly missed by Winter tennis players as-well as by the squash players of the Bath Cluh's cup team. Their Excellencies the 'Governor-Gen-eral (Lord Bledisloe) and Lady Bledisloe will pay their first official 'visit to Auckland next week, arriving at Auckland on Tuosday morning, April 1, and returning to Wellington on Thursday morning, April 3. Their Excellencies will then visit Christchurch. They will arrive from Wellington on Tuesday, April 8, and will leave for Dunedin by the first erpress on Thursday, April 10. The Governor-General presided yesterday morfiing at a meeting of the Executive Council at, parliament House. ,At the conclusion of the meeting His Excellency presented Mr A. A. Luekham, Resident Commissioner at the Island of Niue, with his badge as Commander of the Civil Division of the Order of the British Empire, the honour which His Majesty the King conferred upop Mr Tuckliam on the occasion of the New Year.
