OPENENG OF TARADALE TRIALS. ,J. THOM WINS THE LONG HEAD. The Taradale dog trials opened yesterday in glorious weather on Mr P. Dolbel's Redclyffe property, good progress being inade with the programme. Mr W. Pringle, of Dannevirke, well known in Southern Hawke's Bay dog trial circles, was the judge and he received all the possible assistance from the president Mr P. Dolbel, the secretary, Mr W. A. McFarlane and an enthusiastic committee. There was a large crowd of spectators on the ground throughout the day. The results were as, f ollow : — Class I., »long head and bring baqk into ring, distance 600 yards; time, 3min. J. Thom's Keen, 17, 16. 3, 10, total 46 ... * 1 W. Jowsey's Laddie, 16, 16, 3J, 10, total 45^ ... 2 O. W. Thom's Miss Gloaming, 16, . 16, 3, 10, 'total 45 ... 3 F. Tong's Joe, 16, 15. 3, 10 total 44 ; ., 4 W. Whyte's Boy 16, 15J, 2, 10, total m ... * - 5 Judge's comments : — The course wasone of the best, the average standard of work good and the sheep (kindly lent by the president) were a very good strong lot. Of great interest in Olass I. was the fact that every dog got his sheep and brought them back and this is a iare happening in the long head. ; In addition to the various -cups as advertised in the programme, Mr John A. McFarlane, patron 'of the club, has donated a £5 5s cup as a teams prize, and Mr P. Dolbel has donated a £10 10s cup to the maiden ■ dog. scoring most points in classes I. and U. 0 Class 2, the short head and yard, was not concluded yesterday afternoon • ^ :
