Although competitive^ swimming is praetically finished * this season, the combined cluh night held by the Napier and Te Awa Swimming Clubs 'was in every respect a thorpugh suc- . •eess. Large entries and close finishes contributed in no small degree .to the evening's enjoyment. "The best event of the evening was the War Memorial Handicap, in which the winner, S. Hislop, put up an exceptionally good 'performance. In the first heat he swam the distance. in the good time of 29 l-5sec., and in the final won very .narrowly in 30sec.
