ANNUAL SPORTS HELD. SEVERAL RECORDS BROKEN . Yesterday afternoon marked the occasion of the annual sports of the Hastings High School which were held in the px-esence of a large number of parents and friends, as well as a full muster of students to cheer their fonn fellows on to victory. Tliere is little doubt that the sports were the most successful yet held by the school. The weather was good, the track in great order, and the competitors in such good fettle that school records were shattered repeatedly. and amongst the various "houses," thea-e was that wonderful spirit of friendly rivalry which could not help but make the outing a most enjovable function. As an indication of the great form shown. by the students. it is only necessary ' to mention that in no less then seven events were records sents to the hoards. In the senior mile, Apsey reduced the record from 5min. 18 3-5secs. to 5min. lO 3-5secs. This runner was in great form and brpught the senior 440 yards record down' from 56 l-5secs. to 53 3-5.secs!, . and the 880 yards from 2min. 22secs. to 2min. 18 l-5secs. He won the senior championship with 36 points, his performance including wins in the mile, half mile, 220 yards and 100 yards races, as well -as the 120 yards hurdles. The junior championship was won by Howard, with 26 points, his wins embracing the. 220 yards, 440 yards, 880 yards and mile races. Howard was also in great form and notched records in the junior mile, hringing the time down from 5min. 32 2-5secs. to 5min. 18 4-5secs., 220 yards from 27 l-5secs, to 27secs., 440 yards from 66 4-5secs. to 61 '4-5secs., and the 880 from 2min. 3.) 2-5secs. to 2min. 23 4-5secs.
