On the Greens

WEEK-END B0WLS Bluff mu Defeated By The Port IDEAL WEATHER. Ideal weather conditions favoured bowlers on Saturday, when the outstanding event was the defeat of Bluff Hill by Port. Tbis contest was played on the Port green and the Bluff Hill players found conditions a little too fast for their liking. Right from the outset the visitors were nonplussed by tbe keenness,. of tlie green and thus permitted the Port rinks to establish a lead that was never in danger of being oveitaken, the scores at afternoon tea being Port 51, Bluff Hill 32. Some of the Bluff Hill rinks improved a good deal in the later stages, but the ultimate figures, Port 124, Bluff Hill 97, indicate a comfortable win. Hislop (Bluff Hill) commenced badly, there being 15 to one, against him at one period. Tbe final, 22---] 3, sliowed a better recovery than many anticipated. Bull (Bluff Hill) appeared to hold McLeay, 7 — 7, at one period. The Toit rink then carried their total to 22, Jlull meanwhile Teaching 14. j Somerset-Smith (Bluff Hill) opeued strongly against J. P. Smith, 11—4, at one period. The latter made a good recovery and made the final score, 24 — 21, in his favour. McLennan (Bluff Hill) found Mayo's rink on its best behaviour, and under the circumstances did very well in scoring 13 to Mayo's 22. Six fieads were successfuly burnt in this game. Boland's (Blhff Hill) bout with Wrightson was interesting throughout, and a drawn game, 18 all, indicated the closeness of the game. It looked a ' win for Boland, who unfortunately trailed the kitty and lost it, Wrightson obtaining two to level up the scores.
