FOUR THEFT CHARGES. PLEA OF GUILTY. At the- Hastings Police Court this niorning, before Messrs H. W. C. Baird and Foster Brook, J's.P., a Maori youth named Frederick Norman Campbell was charged with (1) on Septembef 30, 1929, at Havelock North, stealing furniture valued at £3, the property of G. N. Pharazyn; (2) on November 10, 1929, at Tikokino, stealing a sack of wool valued at 15s, the property of the Smedley Estate ; (3) on November 25, 1929. at Havelock North, stealing a sack of wool valued at 15s, the property of F. McKenzie; (4) on November 11, 1929, at jVlaraekakah'o stealing a sack of wool valued at '15s, tlie property of Lachlan McLeau. Tlirough Mr Helleur he pleaded guilty to all charges. Constable Coddington stated that the missing furniture was - found in the accused's house and at the same time the bags of wool were discovered. Mr Helleur said that accused had 'been in trouble with a girl and in order to stand by'her and get a home together he had committed the thefts. He had not been in trouble before and counsel suggested that a term of probation would meet the case» The . Bench decided that a term of 12 mo'nths' prphation would be suffi•cient. punishnient. ' the accused being ordered to pay 12s 6d costs.
