ENJOYABLE MEETING AT TE ■ AUTE. \ \ — RECORD TRIPLE LEAP BY PHILL1PS. A highly successful sports meeting was held by the Te • Aute Club ' on Saturday, whefl. the entries were a record and the crowd was also a record* A most diversified programme was presented, liorse events, the dog trials, and athletic events being included. As a result the crowd got most interestiug sport. B.y far the outstanding performance of the meeting was that m the liop, , step and .jump when Phillips, froni scratch jumped 45 feet '8$ inches, a jump which is rarely beaten even at championship meetings. It is claimed that this is the best jump eveik done . in Hawke's Bay. . The meeting was splendidly run, all the officials filliug thoir parts well. Mr B. Draper (horse events), Mr C. W. Davis (dog trials), and Messrg F. C. White,, T. Colquhoun and F. Schultze gave every satisfaction as judges and the twork of Mr W. Brady as starter and handicapper was invaluabla. The honorary secretary. Mr V. A. Thomson, and a large group of officials carried out all the details of the meeting in good s'tyle. Refreshments were obtainahle on tlie gronnd, and _ liofi water was provided, so that the inner man was well catered for. Mr H. R. Campbell. president of the* club, in presenting the cups to ihe fortunate winners, expressed his ple'astire at seeing so large a. gathering and. said that if the visitors had enjoyed themselves. it was all owing to the splendid work of tbe officials, who had spared no effort- in making the arrattgements • as . complete . as possible, and in piwiding a first class day's sport, and one which they would look back npon with _ pleasure.
