WHEN HE INTERFERED IN DOG FIGHT. t PATEA DOG OWNjER BEFORE COURT. SORTED OUT THE WRONG MAN.
HAWERA, This day, While proceedfng to separate two dogs which. were fighting in a Patea street on Friday Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., was assaulted by tlie owner of one of tho dogs, Maui Onekura, who as a result was- fined £5 to-day by justices in tlie Patea* Court on a charge of assauit, together with an additional £5 on a charge of urging dogs to fight. It was urged by Gonstable Kelly that tbe ease was not one of an ordinaiy dog fight.- The animals had been fighting for some timo and. though . distressed, were being urged to continue yhen Mr Salmon arnved. 'Actuated by humanitarian motives, Mr Salmon was proceeding to separate the combatants when Iie was thrown roughly gside by the accused, who was one of " a con'siderable crowd, and continued to urge tbe dogs to fight. Mr Sahnon personally eseorted the accused on the way to the police station till met by a constable.
