IN THE AIR
SATURDAY'S BIG PAGEANT. EIGHTEEN 'PLANES COMPETING. Two of the greatest attractions of the year, the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club's annual air pageant and its annual ball, will be held on Saturday. - The pageant is to be held at the club's aerodrome. Longlands, beginning at 11 a.m. The ball will begin at 8.30 p.m. and will end at midnight. The Railway Department has arranged definitely to run trains at special excursion fares from Waipukurau, Waipawa,- etc.. to Longlands and Hastings. . The pageant will, without doubt, be a great success, and competitors from several other clubs are going to compete in the various races and other competitions and to give exhibitions of stunt flying of all kinds. A special event for locally trained pilots will take place at eleven o'clock, and one of the chief events in the afternoon will be the race (an open event) for the Newbigin Cup. That race is looked upon as the classic aerial event of New Zealand. Eighteen machines are expected to take part in the pageant, and some of the most skilful and dashing pilots in the Dominion are to compete. The ball will be the first big ball of the season, and, as was the case last year, the best or very near it. The music, the floor, and the supper, have been given particular attention, and the experience and energy of the members of the committee are an assurance of complete success. Gentlemen will be charged 7s 6d and Iadies 5s. Double tickets cost 10s. The price of admission for children has now been reduced to 6d.
