KITCHEN TEA Miss Livia Briasco was again the guest of hoiiour at a "kitchen tea" given for_ her by one of her bridesinaids, Miss Maureen McLeod, Haumoana. Mrs J. J. Lowry, George's Drive, kindly lent her charming home for the occasion. The decorations were c-arried out in Autumnal tones. During the afternoon the dancing of Miss Jean Lowry and Miss Meta Camphell, and the songs by Miss A. Clark Thomson were thoroughly enjoyed by all. After a dainty afternoon tea had heen served much merriment was eansed by the presentation, hy little Patricia Harvey, of a bonquet, eonsisting of pegs hlue and clothes line etc., to the hridet-to-he. Miss L. Briasco was the recipient of many useful and varied gifts, for which she sweetly thanked the givers. Miss Maureen McLeod, hostess, was frocked in a model gown of navy georgette, trimmed with bands of coloured ribbons. Miss L. Briasco looked charming in a Lido blue georgette frock, trimmed wfth grey, and wore a smart grey hat t) tone. She carried a posy of Autumn-tinted flowers, the gift of Miss A. Clark Thomson. On Friday evening of last week a large number of happy children gathered at the home of "Mrs C. Douglas in Cobden road, when she gave a very merry party for her two little girls, Marjorie and Alison. The children were entertained with competitions, and a peanut hunt caused a great deal of fun. The tea table with its tempting dishes made a very pretty picture, heing decorated with paper streamers of primrose, lavender and apricot, and lovely flowers of similar tones. Mrs Douglas was beautifully dressed in blaclc lace and georgette. Majorie and Alison Douglas hoth wore charming frocks of blush rose georgette. PRIVATE DANCE ' Miss Joan Swanseger gave an extremely jolly party last week at her studio, Shakespeare road, for Miss Mabel Morris,.. of the Stewart Karitane Home, Wanganui, wlio has been spending her vacation in Napier. A very enjoyable evening was spent in dancing to the music of the gramoplione, and a delicious savoui-y supper and fruit salad were served in the dining-room, which was prettily arranged with flowers. Those present were : — Mrs Swanseger, wlio wore a handsome green and silver tissue frock. Miss Swanseger, beantiful model frock of ivory georgette, beaded and sequinned, the skirt being flared with tulle. FAREWELL PARTIES Of the numerous delightful farewell parties given for Mrs Herbert Humphries, wlio is soon leaving for a trip to England, one of the most enjoyable was given by Mrs F. N. Fussell, Tennyson street, on Thursday night of last week. The guests, of whom there were about 30 in number, were entertained at bridge. The rooms looked very pretty with bowls of lovely hydrangeas. An appetising supper was served in the hall. Mrs Fussell received her guests wearing a beantiful frock of black taffeta. Mrs Huinplnies, smartly fashioned gown of black lace, relieved with royal blue. Also present were : — Mrs W. Humphries, Mrs Hayward, Mrs Warren, Mrs Bernau, Mrs Coleman, Mrs Carlisle, Mrs Scoular, Mrs Nantes, Mrs Hector Smith, Mrs Gilray, Mrs Water worth, Mrs Gatenby, Mrs A. McFarlane, Miss Hardy (Wellington), Miss Handyside, and Miss C. Humnhries. The next afternoon Mrs M. M. Carlisle gave a very jolly little bridge party at her home in Cobden road. A delicious afternoon tea was much appreciated by everyone. Mrs Carlisle wore a charming dress of bronze toned crepe de cliine. Mrs Humphries, heautiful frock of blue crepe de cliine, and smart hat to match. Also present were: — Miss Monckton, Mrs Haywood, Mrs W. Wood, Mrs T. Gilray, Mrs "Bernau, Mrs Leahy. The following Monday afternoon Mrs C. F. Hetley, Fitzroy road, was hostess at a delightful bridge party, Mrs Tennent and Mhs Humphries both being guests of lionour. Bridge tables were arranged in the sitting-room, which was prettily decorated with Micliaelmas daisies, and a tempting afternoon tea was served in the dining room, where bowls of beantiful African daisies were greatly admired. Mrs Hetley received her guests weaving a most attractive dress of blue satin. Mrs Tennent wore a beautiful black and white frock, and black hat. Mrs Humphries, charming dress of lavender crepe de chine, black hat. Others attending were: — Mrs F. A. Hetley, Mrs Fussell, Mrs Nantes, Mrs Leversedge, Mrs Gardiner, Miss Kirk, and Miss Monckton. USEFUL TEAS On Friday afternoon of last week a number of ex High School boys' wives and friends of the school assembled at Mrs T. H. Ringland's liome in Onslow road, each bringing an article to be sold at the Boys' High School fair which is being held at the school grounds on April 12. A great many attractive and ingenious articles were thus obtained, most of them not costing more than 1/-. The prize for the most useful went to Mrs Butler, and the one for the prettiest to Mrs T. M'. Geddis. A dainty afternoon tea was very much appreciated. Those present were : Mesdames T. H. Ringland, W. T. Foster, J. H. Edmundson, J. H. Ringland, W. J. Geddis, T. M. Geddis, Martin, Williains, Reid, McClurg, H, Newton, Butler, Parker, Robertson, Hobbs, Neilson, Harston, Letham, Ashcroft, Bestall, F. G. Smith, and Mrs Bicknell. Tliat evening a similar gathering was again held at Mrs T. H. Ringland's, the prizes this time being won by Mesdames Beck and Francis, and Miss Barrett. A delicious supper was tastefully served. Tennent, who is leaving Napier next week for Woodville, where she will in future live, has been the guest of lionour at several farewell parties recently. Mrs C. E. Morris, Corry's Avenue, was hostess at one held last Tuesday afternoon. The time passed very pleasantly with games of bridge, and a choice tea was served in the diningroom, which was attractively arranged with bowls of dalilias and iceland poppies. Mrs Morris was becomingly dressed in floral crepe de chind. Mrs Tennent, heautiful frock of black floral crepe de chine wonriwith black hat. Those present were: — Mrs J. Wood, Mrs Moodie, Mrs Somerset-Smith, Mrs C. D. Cornford, Mrs C. F. Hetley, and Miss D. .Tennent. FAREWELL 'AFTERNOON Beautiful dalilias and Michaelmas daisies were used for decorative purposes when a bx-idge party, which was greatly enjoyed by all present, was given for Mrs Herbert Humphries on Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs Scoular, Thompson road, _Mrs Scoular and Mrs Leahy being joint hostesses. A delicious afternoon tea, daintily served, was much appreciated by the players. Mrs - Scoular wore a charming ensemble of beige georgette. Mrs Leahy was attractively dressed in floral crepe de chine. Mrs Humphries, most becoming figured navy crepe de chine frock with smart navy hat. Others who attended. were: Mrs Warren, Mrs F. N. JOLLY DANCE Very much enjoyed was the dance given by Mrs W. D. Fitzgerald, when she invited some friends to her home on the Marine Parade last Saturday night. The sitting and breakfast rooms were gay with large bowls of beautiful red phiox, a dainty supper heing tastefully served in the former room. Those present were : — Dr. and Mrs Fitzgerald, tlie latter wearing an effective frock of scarlet georgette made iong at the back, and finisfyed with a bow falling from the shoulder. Mrs F. North, charming blue taffeta and silver frock. Mrs P. Brodie, dainty dress of pink taffeta. Mrs R. Buddo, picturesque taffeta frock in two shades of pink, with uneven scalloped hem, and shoulder straps of diamante. Mrs Clissold, very pretty frock of silver net over pale green. Mrs Sattertliwaite, beautiful dress of lemon floral georgette. Mrs T. B. Lockyer, floral tissue frock smartly fashioned with a cape. Miss M. Cornford, gracefui dress of sapphire blue spotted net, the skirt being long at the back." Miss G. Russell, most becoming dress of flame georgette made with uneven hem. ' » Miss U. Kettle was hostess at a delightful bridge party given at her home, Wharerangi, on Thursday afternoon of last week. Beautiful zinnias, in all their lovely tones, were used to decorate, and a tasteful afternoon tea was daintily served. Mrs Kettle wore a most becoming dress of leaf-brown georgette. The guests were : — Mrs Fussell, Mrs W. Wood, Mrs Hunt, Mrs H. S. Hindmarsh, Mrs Leahy, Mrs H. Humphries, Mrs W. Humphries, Mrs Bernau, Mrs Riddiford, Mrs Harrison, Mrs A. Morris, Miss Reid, and Miss C. Humphries. * * * AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Jessie Milared, second daughter of Mr D. R. Harrison, of Napier, to Douglas Bruce, fourtli son of Mr and Mrs D. B. Frame, of Napier. FURS * Extremely fascinating is Mrs L. V. Zala's display of furs at her emporium, above the Bank of New Zealandj Hsatings, to which a cordial invitation is extended to all the ladies of Hahvke's Bay. The beauty of the furs will b© your inspiration, and the priees your delight. It is a season of furs, and a woman's attractiveness is greatly enhanced with a fur coat of full rich skins, or a choker, or throw-over of selected pells in heautiful soft, and becoming colours. Then there are the ready-to-wear fur collars and euffs for trimming tweed coats and costumes, and with a set of these you will be surprised at the ease with which you cau finish your coat in a really smart style. A very charming model coat was built of brown liutria, with a crush collar and cuffs of skunk. Very fascinating was a Russian blue squirrel coat, which had a shawl collar and cuffs patterned with a vandyked design. A beautiful seal coat, handsomely lined, had a roll collar, cuffs and border of a rich, glossy skunk. Very handsome was a, flank musquash with a "frame-the-face" collar, and cuffs of South American skunk. Exeremely lovely was a coat of musquash with reversed border at hem and gathered collar and cuffs. Tlie fox scarves were really beautiful, finished with head and tailsj the lining being a feature. A throw-over of brown dyed squirrel in a beautiful sliade of brown was featured with a small head in the centre of back, and the ends finished with tails. Another necklet was of Russian blue squirrel, with head ornament and tails. Then there are marten ohokers of real white Arctic fur, dyed in shades of beige and platinum. Necklets large and small with priees to suit every purse.
