THE AERO BALL
A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. PAGEANT PRIZES PRESENTED. Tlie Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club's ball. in the Hastings Assembly Hall, on Saturday night, was a pronounced success, and was the most brilliant function seen for a long time. There was an attendance of about 200 couples, including the Right Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs Coates, Major-General Sir Andrew Russell. Mr H. M. Campbell, M.P., and Mrs Campbell, the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roach) and all the visiting pilots. The hall was very tastefully decorated with bamboo and greenery, and suspended from the roof was a skeleton model of the famous 12-engined Dornier X giant seaplane. The music for the dancing was played by Miss Williams' Orchestra and a Miraco panatrope, kindly supplied by Messrs Roach's, Ltd. General arrangements left nothing to be desired, everyone present spending a really happy time, and the success of the function reflected the greatest credit on the secretary of the ball, Mrs W. Richmond, and her hard-working committee. During the evening the various prizes won at the pageant were presented to the winners by Mr and Mrs Coates. Mr Coates, patron of the cluh, heartily congratulated the club upon the success of its pageant, and thanked the public for their support and the visiting pilots for coming forward in such numbers to make the pageant a success. Sir Andrew Russell, president of the club, spoke in similar strain, and said that the club might well be proud of its achievement. The presentation of the prizes concluded with hearty cheers for Mr and Mrs Coates, for Sir Andrew Russell and for the prize-winners.
