HOCKEY IN HASTINGS

LAST SEASON- REVIEWED. THIS YEAR'S PROSPECTS. The following annual report has been issued by the Hastings Hockey Sub-Associatiou. "The committee has every reason to fcelieve that hockey is again coming to the fore in Hastings. During the past season the sub-assoeiation "brought the Saturday men's competition into vogue again and also had a ladies' competition. There were six men and five ladies' teams affiliated to the sub-as-sociation. Hastings were successful in lifting the Manuere Sliield from Wairoa. Challenges were met from Wairoa, Napier and Porangahau and in ah these matches Hastings were successful. A challenge was entered against Dannevirke forC the Norden Cup, but Hastings was unsuccessful, as was a quest to Gisborne for the Smgle Cup and badges. The ladies were fortunate in having matches against Porangahau, Waipukurau, and Manawatu. "In the club competitions Heretaunga were successful in winning the Williams Cup. presented for competition between Hastings and. Napier. United again won the Harvey Cup, wliile Karori held the Challenge Banner. Karori also hold the June 3 trophy, the Roslyn Cup. The Saturday ladies' competition wa s won by Matariki. who hold the Wall Shield. "Tlie sub-association held a highlv successful ball. The financial and social success reflected great credit on -tlie ladies' and men's oommittees,. The financial position of. the sub-asshpiation is sound, though the exnenditure has heen somewhat heavier than previously. "The sub-association is fortunate in hf-.ving many willing helpers . who. are always prepared to assist the committee. To all those who in any way helned to make the 1930 season the undoubted success it was, the association tenders its sincere thanks."
