ANZAC DAY
SPECIAL SERVICE IN HASTINGS. INNOVATION AT ST. MATTHEW'S CHURCH. In addition to the public service in the Municipal Theatre yesterday, a special Anzac service was also held in St. Mattliew's Church, Hastings. Tliis service was really a new departure in that it was practically clioral throughout, there being no address given. The Rev. C. Mortimer Jones conducted the service, which opened with the National Antliem, emhraciug several additional verses specially written for adaptation to New Zealand. The Anzac Anthem, an appropnate piece of music, was sung for the first time in Hastings, and was followed by prayers. The hymn "O Valiant Hearts" was sung, and tlien Nlr Cecil B. Spinney rendered the stirring "In Memoriarn, 1914," written hy Mansfield, who was on active service with a Scottish regiment. The choir sang "For the Fallen," and Mr Spinney followed with Mendelssohn's "Sonata 6" as an organ rendering. The concluding stages of the service were marked by the hymn "Soldiers of the Cross, Arise," tlie vesper hymn, "Lord, While for All Mankind we Pray," the Benediction and "Prelude jn C Major," played by Mr Spinney.
