TARADALE SCHOOL.
Tliere was more than usual interest sliown at the meeting of householders held at Taradale last evening, presided over hy Mr R. D. Kelly. It is stated to 'be the largest meeting held there. The retiring committee,. who have done such good work in connection with the school. were re-elected, two new members being elected to fill vacancies. At a meeting of tbe newly elected committee Mr Frost was re-appointed chairman, Mr White secretary and Mr Turton treasurer. The Rev. McCutcheon and Mr Pollock- were elected the visiting committee for the month. The Rev. E. A.- McCutcheon raised the question of the wisdom of continuing to spend funds on school prizes. Mr Goodwin supported a suggestion that ' the money could better be utilised, in the improvement of the school as a whole. He belieyed the money should be earmarked. for the building . np of the school library. It was moved by Mr Wainscott and seconded by Mr Robson, that school prizes he not given in future. The motion was carried unanimously, the suggestion being made to the incoming committee ' that the money be earmarked for improvements to the Ebrajyv^
tee of tlie Taradale Schqol was held prior to the annual meeting, there being present the Rev. F. L. Frost (chairman), Messrs C. H. White (secretary), B. H. Turton, W. Pollock, E. E. Goodall, R. Wright, A. Robson, the IJev. E. A. McC'utcheon and Mr W. A. B. Goodwin (acting headmaster). Accounts totalling £24 19s 7d were passed for payment. The headmaster reported that the attendance at the main school was 260 and 110 at the side school, making -a total of 370. with an average attendance or 347.3. In conclusion. the chairman congratulated tlie committee 011 the work it had done and tlie fine team spirit shown throughout the year, especially by Messrs White and Turton, secretary and treasurer respectively. On the motion of Mr Pollock a resolution was passed expressing appreciafcion of the valuable services rendered to tlie meeting by Mr Wright, a retirmember. The chairman was also thanked for his past services.
