CRICKETERS' BALL. The committee of the Hastings Cricket Sub-Association was responsible for the entertaining ball which was hekl in the Assembly Hall, Hastings, 011 Easter Monday night. The decorations were carried out witli the use of gold and flame streamers, which canopied the roof. A fealure of the decorations was the roloured liglits and the spot lights, which were the worli of Messrs Gallien and Wall. Walden's Orchestra kept up a tuneful syncopation which the dancers enjojed, and encores were frequently demanded. The supper room decorations were carried out with the use of Autumn - tinted foliage and flowers, and the sunper was all that could be desired. Mrs T. Hill was organiser of the supper and had a bevy of dainty nmidens assisting her. The men's committee were 'Messrs L. J. Knuckey (hon. secretary), H. Carr, F. Spiers, L. Fisher, N. Fippard, I. Baird, R. Bell, M. Michadl and H. MoKenzie. Tt was the first venture of the committee in the wav of entertainment and it proved highly successful, as over five liundred guests were present. , The presence of so manv visiting cricketers made the ball an interesting one. iMrs T. Elder wore .a red floral frock and a blnek silk shawl. Miss Hood, in a becoming frock of powder blue georgette made with peaked skirt, the bodice being outlined with a yoke of gold lace. Tler sister wore a deep larkspur celoured georgete. the skirt falling in long points. Mrs L. Knuckey wore a daintv frock of lemon panne velvet and satin, the skirt full and scalloped. Mrs C. Bennett, a pastel-tinted frock of taffetas, with frills of lace. Mrs Jones wore a becoming frook of blnck satin and lace and spotted net. Mrs Cottle tvore gold lace, and the waist swathed with tulle. Mrs Sorenson, in a pretty red gorgette, beaded in crystal. Mrs Walden, in black taffetas. Mrs L. Henry wore lacquer red with the skirt falling in long points. Mrs McDonald, in a stylish frock of lemon taffetas with a design in green. Miss M. Budd wore a graceful frock of black georgette, with a pointed skirt and girdled with diamante. Miss Robrtson looked charming in mauve organdie, made with' a sjiortwaisted bodice and trimnied with lemon net with tiny hand-made flowers of mauve, pink and lenion ; the skirt was full and long and finished with a scallop. Miss IJna Camphell was frocked similarly, both having been bridesmaids at a recent wedding. Miss Fox was prettilv frocked in foam green silk lace, with a runaway hem at back of skirt. Pink chenille emhossed georgette shawl. Miss Molly Griffin, "Wellington, wore pink taffetas, tvith a fully flared skirt bapded with tiny ruchings of silk. Miss Perress, in a pretty blue taffetas, with a full skirt, hemmed with silver metalic lace. The same lace trimmed the bodice. Miss Hunlop, Wellington, in a pretty blue silk, smartly fashioned. Miss Burton wore a floral chenille bodice and skirt of rose georgette, trimmed with narrow black lace. Miss Holes wore a soft black cliiffon velvet. Miss Ross wore a silk and spotted net in lemon tone, with a frilled skirt. Miss Rees, in a pretty frock of flame, with a two-tiered skirt. Miss Winfield'® frock had a floral tissue bodice and full skirt of pink georgette. Miss Banks wore an effective black toilette. Miss M. Palmer looked sweet in a pale mauve taffetas, with a long full skirt inset with silver lace, and finished at hem with same and brilliant ornaments. Miss Elder wore apricot georgette, the skirt falling in long points. Miss Shields wore a pretty lace frock with uneven hemline, and shoulder spray in contrasting colour. Miss M. Brandon wore a pretty green georgette over silk, falling long at one side. Miss F. Webb was prettily frocked in larkspur pink; the bodice was composed of pink ring velvet, and the skirt of georgette fell in graceful lines. Miss A. GoodalE wore an attractive blue panne velvet b'odice with a skirt of georgette in the same colour. A dainty chartreuse-green panne velvet was worn by Miss D. Davis. Miss Kathleen Roulston was picturesquely frocked in pale green taffetas, vuth sliort-waisted bodice, and the skirt long and scalloped. A pretty wliite tafftns, sprayed with roses and made in the picture style a\ as worn by -Miss Peggy Krogh, fo Napier. Miss M. Ashcroft's dance frock of green georgette was composed of miniature frills, and brightened with diamante trimmings. A dainty frock of pink silk and georgette, with a long basque bodice and pointed skirt was worn by Miss Cax-r. Miss Rkynd wore a bodice of royal blue embossed chenille and skirt of georgette. Miss Wright looked very sweet in blush pink georgette with a bodice of chiffon velvet trimmed with diamante and huge bow at one side. Miss M. Hogg wore a smart model of black georgette, with long, dipping skirt, enhanced with a spray of flameeoloured flowers. Miss Hackett wore black chiffon velvet with pink rose on her shoulder. An attractive red panne velvet and georgette frock was worn by Miss Percy. Miss M. Archibald, in powder-blue georgette, with a tiered skirt and the waist girdled with diamante. Miss M. Lankovsky wore a chiffon model, patterned in cherry red and a girdle of ribbon velvet. A pretty Lido-blue georgette, beaded, was worn by Miss P. Ross. Miss M. Le Quesne's pretty frock of flame taffetas had a full flouneed skirt. Miss E. Percy, in a pretty green satin with dipping skirt and effective shoulder posy. A pretty shot nink taffetas, with berthe collar, and long sash was worn by Miss Watson. Miss G. Williams, in a. pretty blue . georgette frilled skirt and tissue bodice. A dainty lemon silk bodice and a fluttering tulle skirt was worn by Miss D. Smith. Miss Cadman wore gold tissue and charmeuse, and a polka dotted net overdress falling long at the back, further enhanced with a gold and green spray of flowers. . Miss White, in a pretty lemon silk and net frock, with silver trimmings. A pale pink georgette, frilled in rainbow colours, was worn by Miss Williams. WHen the hostess is youncr and popular and the guests conviyial, happiness and mirth run high. This was the atmospliere which pervaded the dance and cliina evening given by Miss Nan Hildreth, jit the home of ber parents, Mr and Mrs J. W. Hildreth, Fernhill, 111 lionour of Miss Stella Chaplin, a bride-elect and a popular girl of the vounger set. The festivities were of a bounteous nature and the guests had a very happy time. A beautiful effect was created in the dance room with the use of Autumn flowers and foliage, and excellent music was supplied by Walden's Orchestra. The dining-room was beautified with pink cosmos and Autumn leaves in shades of bronze shading to red and here a delicious savoury supper was served. The toast to Miss Stella Chaplin and her bridegroom-to-be was drunk with musical honours, and Mr Gordon Small replied on behalf of his bride-to-be, and tlianked the hostess and her parents and all the guests for tlieir wonderful gifts of cliinaware and crystal. The company then sang "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." Hancing was continued till the early hours, .the guests being loth to leave the scene of so much pleasure. During the evening the claret cup was served. Miss Nan Hildreth looked charming in a pink georgette and gold lace model, the bodice moulded to the figure aftd the skirt fully flared and long. Mrs Hildreth wore a liandsome model •frock of rose beige silk .crepe, the skirt falling in uneven liem effect. Miss Stella Chaplin looked very attractive in blue moire velyet, the skirt falling long in uneven line and hemmed with net. A shoulder spray was an added attraction. Mrs W- T. Chaplin wore a becoming frock of brown satin beaute, effectively embroidered. Mrs A. WEDDING DANCE. Following the marriage of Mr and Mrs L. C. Taylor a dance was held in the Rialto Tea Rooms at which Mrs W. Taylor and Mrs Len Baker were hostesses, Mrs McMahon presided at the piano and tlie folk much en.ioyed dancing to the music. Carberry and Miss Gladys Symes have returned from Palmerston North, where they attended the Cpunty Glub's championships on Easter Saturday. (Miss Symes performed well, winning both the heat and final of the ladies' 100 yards championship. Slie also won the 7 o yards handicap. This is a splendid wind-up of a successful season to our .Hastings young lady athlete. * * * Mrs and Miss Condgon and Miss Nankiville, of Petone, were in Hastings for the Taylor-Hawkes .festivities.
