"SUNNY SIDE UP" BREAKING RECORDS AT GAIETY.

The popularity of the hig Pox Movietone musical comedy romance was again evidenced last evenmg, when another capacity house of the most entbusiaistic attended the ever-popular Gaiety de Luxe, and judging from the frequent outbursts of laughter and applause, the huge audience was taken into an esctasy of delight. "Sunny Side Up" portrays a story chock full of humanness, laughter, fun and pathos intermingling throuhgout, which cannot fail to touch the heart of the onlooker to the full, telling a story of Yorkville, New York city's upper Ea-st Side. It is July Fourth and the day's celehration is to climax in a block party. Among the Yorkvilleites preparing for the festivities are Molly Carr (Janet Gaynor), a clerk at Macy's; Bee (Marjorie White), her girl friend with whom she lives; Eric Swenson (E1 Brendel), grocery nian who lives across the hall from the girls and who keeps a brotherly eye on Molly; and Eddy (Prank Richardson), Bee's hoy-friend, who sells neckties and aspires to fame as a song writer. Not so manv miles away at swanky Sea Cliff, the "400" are celebrating the day in a decidedly diftereut manner. A patry is m progress at the Cromwell home. Jack Cromwell (Cbarles Farrell) aristocratic son of wealth, finds the gaiety of lns friend s rather horing inasmuch as his fiancee, Jane Worth (Sharon ^Lynn) seems to iake great delight m bedevilling him. When s'he has too many cocktails and flirts outrageously, Farrell, in disgust, climbs into his roadster to ride off his grouch. From th6n onwards the story races at break neck sj>eed, comedy and pathos keeping up a great pace, while seven 'big soim hits are introduced which catch on in no uncertain manner . "Sunny Side Up" is produced on a big scale, but special mention must ho inade of the Yorkville setting— an exact reproduction of a section taken from fhe heart of New York's upper East Side. This set is the largest ever hmlt on a motion picture stage, covermg three city blocks. In the background is the East river and the Queensborough bridge; the hlock party— one of the most colourful sequences ever seen and heard on any screen. Yorkville, celebrating the Fourth of July m the oldtime manner with fireworks, a hig parade led. by a boys' band, and a programme of speeches, songs 1 and dances that are packed with talent and laughter ; the lawn party at Sc.uthampton — Society seen on parade and at play. Gorgeous debutantes and doughty dowagers strolling about the lawns, shapely nymphs cavorting ia the surf, sunning themselves in the sun-hack bathing suits the water carnival — a hreathiess sight. Janet s solo numher, "I'm a Dreamer— Aren't We All " is followed up with a love duet, "If I Had a Talking Picture of You," sung with Charles Farrell. The kiddie number introduced in the second chorus _of this song is oue of the most delightful ever staged. The final number of the water carnival sequenoe presents Sharon Lynn and the ensemble in "Turn on the Heat." The number starts with a wallop and works up to an almost hysterical climax. As to-night and to-morrow night will see the last two performances, together with the final matinee which takes place to-morrow, Friday, at 2.30, -patrons are urged to make early applicatiofLS for seats or arrive at the theatre early to avoid disappointment.
