MOTION DEFEATED. To Have Tax Removed.
(Eeceived ITiis Day, 2 p.m.) LONDON, April 30. In the House of Commons Sir W. Wayland moved to reduce the new beer duty from 3s to 2s 6d per barrel. He said that while every other war tax had been reduced, the beer tax had been doubled. The amendment was defeated by 243 votes to 112. Sir W. Wayland then moved tliat they grant a re'bate of 2s per harrel for beer brewed purely from Iocal malt hops. This was also defeated by 275 votes to 145.
