UNSOLD CLIPS

-?»- — WHAT WILL BE EFFECT OF NEW VALUES ? PROSPECTS FOJL NAPIER SALE. Wbile it is vet too earlv to make any definite approximation of exactly what anxount of wool will be offering on that oc-casion, it seexns fairly certain that tlxe prices ruling at tlie saies in Wellington last week will have the effect of releasing a quantity of the 24,592 bales of unsold wool uliich are at present heing held in the Napier stores fo • the sale of crutchings and heldover fleece wools, which is set down to take plaee in Napier in August. The values realised in Wellington were actually from 1-Ll to 2d higlier ihan those realised at the last sale in Napier in Mareh and while still below a payable leve] to tbe producers, with the appareut upward trend of tlie market it seems likelv tliat some vendors will consider it worth wln'lc to place their wool on the market by the time tbat August arrives. Prior to the Napier sale, there will be a big sale, in Auckhfrxd 011 July 22 next and 110 doubt tlie prices ruling there will also have their effect 011 tlie market in Napier. A return compiled by tbe Dominion Woolbrokers' Association as at June 6 sbowed that slightly more tlxan 140.000 bales of wool were held in New Zealand awaiti ng disposal". this total including what was in brokers' stores and known to be in the sheds of growei's Tbe offerings at tbe Wellington and Wanganui saies Ta.st week reduced tbe unsold total by a few thousand bales, tlie two catalogues totalling about 7700 bales. The quantity of wool offered for sale in the Dominion dimng tbe 11 monttis ended May 31 was 109,075 bales less tlxan in the corresponding period of 1928-29. and 150,725 fewer bales were sold. Tliis season, wliieh does not offlciallv end xxntil June 30, tbe offering fo.™ tbe 11 xnonths was 496,430 bales, oF wlxich 416,253 bales were sold. Tbe x-espective totals for last season were 605,505 and 566,978 b-ales. Tlius tlie quantity offered but not sold was about 80,000 bales tliis season, com-pai-ed with 38,500 last season.
