AN EASY MARKET
CONDITIONS AT WAIPUKURAU. PASSINGS FREQUENT ON STORE SHEEP. There was a tair yarding of cattle at Waipukurau this morning. There were only a few buyers. The market was dull, possibly due to the mixed liature of the yarding in attendance when the sale opened. The day was fine but cold. Fair prices ruled 011 one 01* two lines of young forxvard steei-s which actually made the best sale of the day. The first offering was two dairy-bred cows, allegedly fat. They liad been actually light in condition. They made a fair sale at £6 18s. A single similar class of offering was knocked down at £5 10s. Five liglit px-ime to prime P.A. cross bullocks, well bi-ed cattle, four days on tbe road, fair framed and conditioned beef bodie-s, made a slow stax*t and were finally nut by at £11 7s 6d. A bid of £8 7s 6d secured txvo forward Sboi*tborn bullocks, fair framed but liglit in condition. A single prime Hereford cow, good beef, faii-lv well finlslied, sold at £8 los. A single offering of "Taranaki beef" solcl at £4 15s. Two fat to liglit prime dairy breds xvere passed at £6 5s. Four txvo-year cross-bx-ed steers, well grown young cattle. but vex-y liglit, made a fair sale at £4 2s. WEANERS ON OFFER. A small line of P.A. Shortkorn cross weaner steers, big framed but light, sold at £4 2s. A fair conditioned forwai'd Jei-sey steer fetched £5 8s. A bid of 53s secured a well-covered P-A. vealer heifex-, a good body, of baby beef. A lighter daii-y-bred vealer steer sold at 46s. Three P-A. weaner heifers, a very liglit line, fetched £2 Is. Five P.A. and Kereford thxee-year steers, xvell-bred young cattle but liglit in condition, sold fairly xvell at £8 2s. A similar but better covered and conditioned line, made £8 14s. A single liglit P.A. heifer was good buying at £1 17s 6d. DAIRY LINES. A light conditioned spi-xnging Jersey heifer, due next rnonth, was passed at £6 5s. A bid of £8 15s secured a guaianteed springing Jersey cow. A light conditioned nxilking Shorthorn, due to calve in a fortnight , fetched £6 5s. A crossbred Hereford cow, due to calve in August, sold at £5. A well conditioned Jersey, third calver, a nice class of cow, well covered, sold at £10 2s 6d. Four fully-grown P.A. bulls, rejects frcm Aramoana Station, sold at £7, £3 15s and £6 5s in thi-ee lots. IN THE SHEEP PENS. The attendance of buyers had increased when the sale on fat sheep started. There was only oue pen of fats yarded. Twenty-nine fat wethers made a fair sale at 20s 9d. A station line of 169 empty ewes, big-franied , sheep, mixed in condition, but of a ihardv stamp, sold xvell at 11s 2d. Special iuterest attached to tlie offei--ing of 192 two-tooth ewes, running xvith Romney rams, offered 011 account of Mr Lach McKenzie, Te Manuiri. This line of even-xvoolled and xvell-groxvn young slxeep xvas passed at 17s. A _ furtber draft of two-tootb exves, 129 ip nxmxber, xvere passed in, 18s being required to start them and not being foi-thcoining. Txventy-seven empty exves, light conditioned stuff, xnet the market at 4s 6d. A xvether hogget line, 97 in number, fair xvoolled but mixed in size, sold at 9s lOd. A bid of 19s 9d secured 88 fat and forxvard wethers. *A fair-cotiditioned station line, another xvether hogget line, 125 in number, a good, liardy stamp of young sheep, but very light in condition, made 9s. Sixty-three stoi-e exx*es fetched 7s 6d. A xrery light line of 24 store ewes xvas passed at 4s 6d.
