♦ position at arapuni Reauest For Services Of Engineer PREMIER'S STATEMENT.
CHRISTCHURCH, This day. "A cablegram has been despatched to the New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada asking him to secure the services of a noted hydro-electric engineer to report to the Government on Arapuni." This aunouncement was made in public to-night by the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, in addressing a constituent at Cheviot. "It is a very disquieting position," said the Prime Minister. "I don't know wliy it is that all tbese things should come to a head just when I have taken the reins of offiee. We have to face the facts, and the facts are that one of the most important electrical installations in tlie Dominion, which supplies the whole of the Auckland province with power, is in a very serious position.
