QUTBREAK OF FIRE AT "WHITFORD. DANCE'S SUDDEN END.
AUCKLAND, This day. A dance at Whitford on Tuesday evening came to a sudden end afc about 10 o'clock, when a resident of the township ruslied into the liall with the news that tlie house of a prominent man in Whitford, Mr T. Ilenson, was ablazc. The younger meiuhers of the Henson family were at the dance. Mr Henson was away 111 the country, and the house was emptv. All the men left their partners at once, and hurried to the house, over a mile and a-half away. to give what nssistance they could. Their efforts were fntile, for hy the time they arrived the roof of the house had f allen, and all they could do was to stand and look on. Nothing was saved and all the family nossessed were the evening clothes they stood in.
