CHRISTCHURCH, This day. The second nianslaughter charge of . the present cruninal session of the Supreme Court was heard to-day _wli?n Lawrence Tliohias McKendry, single, was indioted that at Methven on May ; 22 he did so negligently drive a motor • ear as to eause tlie death of Rachel Annie Highley, tliereby committing manslaughter. The Cr&wn Proseeutor said that the case arose out of a collision between a Hiotor car, driven by accused, and a gig. The mother was driving and the daughter was sitting in the left hand seat of the gig and was holding a hurricane lamp. Tlie Crown alleged that the prisoner tried to pass the gig on the wrong side and contended that, having seen that the gig ahead of hini was in trouble, he was guilty of negliganoe in not slowing down or stopping the ear.
