AVIATION IN NAPIER
LANDING-GROUND WANTED. ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND. A further step towards the establish ment of civil aviation in Napier was made at a largely-attended meeting held a few days ago, when the possibility of making this city a centre of flying was thoroughly discussed. Offers of the loan of planes and tuition were made by members of the Hastings section of the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club. A definite site for a landing-ground has not yet been selected, though many suggestions have heen put forward. A portion of the Richmond block is favoured by a large section of those interested. It is stated that very little surfacing would be required to bring this land into proper condition. Among other sites suggested is one quite near to Napier which would fit the purpose temporarily. A runway of 600 yards would be available on this site. It is hoped that arrangements for the acquisition of a piece of land will be finalised within a few days, after which another meeting will be called, a provisional committee elected and the enrolment of members commenced.
