G'ATTLE EEED IN HAWKE'S BAY. STATION OWNERS HAVING ANXIOUS TIME. EFFECT OF UNCERTAIN SEASON. Ono effect of the unseasonable weather conditions that we liave been enjoying 111 Hawke's Bay during the past few liiontlis is a general shortage of cattle feed iu a good many distriets, in l'act tliere are very very few areas in Hawke's Bay ju-st now where cattle are doing anytliing like as well as they sliould in a normal season at this time of the year. The condition of most of tlie station cattle lines to be found in the store pens at our Hawke's Bay saies these days is an illustration of tlie liard tiiiies through whicli they are passing in respect to feed conditions and it is noticeable that at the saies practically tlie wholo of tlie bidding 011 store cattle is handled by buyers from outside distriets. Tliere wero scveral Hawke's Bay farmers looking for grazing at last week's saies, but grazing 13 hard to seeure just now witliin reasonahle distanee. . Rain and sunshine have never been so urgentlv needed in Hawke's Bay as they are at tlie present and if the ruling conditions continue, we are going to find ourselves in a serious position in respect to the liolding of our cattle stocks. The position is not confined to this end of the province, but is even worse 011 tlie soutliern east coast.
