About 100 persons crowded round ihe doors, and 40 more -were counted as they left the hall on Sattirday night after passing unaniniously a resolution asking for tlie immediate release from prison of Abraliam Wally 3Iahomed Salaman, tlie Indian herbalist, who was recently found guiltv of manslaugliter of a boy who was taken to him for treatment for diabetes, and sentenced to twelve nionths. The meeting was intenselv entliusiastic, tlie remarks of tlie speakers heing freelv punctuated with applause. The following resolutions were directed to he telegraphed to the acting Prime 31inister, tlie Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and 3Ir H. E. Holland : — "(1) That Salaman, in the unanimous opinion of this meeting, should be released from gaol at oue©. With all due respect to tlie Cliief Justice, Salaman is, in the opinion of this meeting, no eharlatan, and the meeting respectfully asks that tlie 3Iinister o-f. Justice should immediately release Salaman, whose imprisonment is a gieat handicap and Liardship to liundreds of sufferers who were being treated by him aud now sadly need his lielp. "(2) That tlie necessary action he tnkep by means of petitioning the authorities and otherwise in order to bring about the release of _ Salaman with as little delay as possible. "(3) That a committee of five he appointed to draft a petition and otlierwise carry into effect the desire of the meeting. "(4) That. having heen infonned Ihat the police have intimated their intention of proceeding with qertain minor cliarges against Salaman in the Magistrate's Court, tlie meeting respectfully suggests the 3Iinister of Justice should give the necessary instruction tliat these cliarges should not be proeeeded with, in view of Snlnmnn's conviction on tlie major cliarges." Petition lists praying for Palnmnn's inunediate release were distributed and largelv signed.
