BOARD'S SUBSIDIES OFFER. NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS.

WELLINGTON, This day. As the result of the Unemployineiit Board 's offer to local authorities cf subsidies up to a total of £25,000 on the basis or £2 for £1 as a special txpediency measure for the relief of uneniployiiient over the Christmas season, a number of applications have been received. Up to yesterday the board had made allocations amounting to £19.356, which have heen approved by the Finance Minister. Tlie board is onlv recommending subsidies 011 works carried out with money derived from other than Government sources.
