Considerable disappointment and annoyance was causedyesterday; therefore, when tlie member for Napier received a further communication froiii Mr Smith, chairinan of the board, stating tliat the approval advised the previous day was due to some misapprehension and that. the' applicatio'n was under further consideration by tlie Minister of Finance. To this Mr. Barnard has repl'td, "I am bitterly disappointed that 25 inen whom we lioped to s'tart on Monday are held up. I cannot nnderstand the board's delay in obtaining the Finance Minister' s sanctfon . in view of the board's announcement of the desire to enable the workless to earn Christmas cheques. Suvely tlie Government does not intend that recourse shall be bad immediately to sustenance allowance. T would stronglv urge.tliat the matter of the subsidv be finalised to-morrow to enable work to commence on. Monday." .
