WELLINGTON, Last night. There was no improvement in prices at to-day's wool sale, which was marked'by lieavy late withdrawals and frequent passings. There was animated competition within very restricted linnts. Attractive lines were keenlv sought, but the price was 'usuallv between 4kl tuid 6d Very seldom was mucli bidding above 7d. The Jiighest price was for a iew lqts of Merino, eight bales of A INIerino selling at lOd, while II bales of super comeback made lOjd. Other Marlborough lmes of'similar descriptions made 94d. Tliese wools were purchased by local niills. The quantity catalogued was 18,040. Withdrawals reduced this to about 16,500. The qualitv was below average, showing signs of the unfavourable Winter. Held over wool opened up stale in looks. Buving was more general tlian at earlier saies. Bradford and Canada were tlie principal buyers of super crossbreds. There was some buving by Japan and it is said some wool was taken on behalf of Russia. The official range of prices is as follows : —
