TONE OF LONDON MARKET. BUTTER AND CHEESE:

AUCKLAND, Hiis day. A decidedly brighter tono is recorded in the London hutter and cheese mavkets. Clearances were particularly lieavy last week, and owing to heavy fogs delajdng discliarge of vessels, the stocks on the spot have been decreased still further. A promineut exporter stated last niglit that there was every indication that hedrock had beeu reached in the meantime and that a slight improvement was probable in the immediate futnre. Heavy shipments would be arriving again in January, however. "The most ontimistic for some time," said Mr F. H. Leonard, of Messrs Leonard and Son,/Ltd., when referring to cablegrams received over the weekend, Mr Leonard said that stored stocks had now heen cleaved and shipments were being taken up promptly. The forward position was stronger, as spot niarket buyers were offering 10J for January and February shipments, compared with lOd at the present. Messrs Leonard and Son, Ltd., received the following cablegram from Mr A. C. RowsOn, London : — "Cheese: New Zealand wliite 59s to 60s, coloured 57s to 58s. _ The demand is good and the market is steady. "Butter: First grade 104s, finest 106s, nnsalted 110s to 116s. The demand is good and the niarket steady." Anialgamated Dairies, Ltd., received the following market report from London : — "Butter: Owing to the lieavy fog the discliarge of severnl vessels is hekl up and there is a shortage of landed goods. The nominal value of New Zealand finest 106s to 108s. Deliveries: New Zealand, 2527 tons ; stocks, 3226 tons. The retail position is unclianged. The cheese market is steady. Wliite 60s, coloured 58s."
