RADIO AT HOSPITAL

ALL WARDS NOW 1SQUIPPED. I HE AD-PH ONES AT EVERY BED. A BOON TO PATIENTs! Almost twelve months after the initial stejr made by the Napier Radio Club, the installation of wireless at the Napier Hospital has now been conipleted. Only a few minor details require attention and these will be disposed of almost immediately. When the Radio Club opened the movement to equip the hospital about a year ago, only sufficient money was available to complete the installation in the Shrimpfon Ward for children. A donation of £100 given by Lady McLean six months ago made possible the equipment of the Margarefc Ward, and the reeent successful drive, which was instituted hy the Napier Rotary Club, resulted in a further £500 being raised, and made possible the completiou of the sclieme. Head-pliones are ikow placed heside e-very hed in the shelters, the Colernan, Robjolms. Midgley, Stokes and Margaret Wards, in the adniinistration block, the Nurses' Home, the MeHardy Home and the porters' and maids' quarters. Lond speakers have been placed in the isolation hlock and the Shrimpton Ward. The delivery of the receiving set for tlie McHardy Home is being await'ed. Radio lias been in working order in the main block of the hospital for almost a fortuight. The work of iustallation, which lias been under the supervision of IMr A. V. Harris, senior mechaniciail of the Post and Telegraph staff 111 Napier, has kept two men constantly engaged, with additional as- . sistance from others when required. The work, made possible by the £500 vecently raised. lias occupied about two montbs. Witli tlie exception of a few piecps wliicli could not be obtained in New Zealand. all the equipment has been purchased in Napier. Even to those ivlio have never had to spend any time under treatment iu hospital, it is not diflicult to realise the pleasure which patients will rereive from tlie provision of music over the air. The cause i'ot^ which, the appeal was recentlv made was oue to which the public could contribute with full knowledge that it deserved every support.
