CONVENT CONCERT
LAST NIGHT'S SUCCESS, Tbe plirase, " better than in previous years," seems to eom© almost natural wben any report is written concerning tbe annual ooncerts which are given by tbe pupils attsnding tbe Hastings Convent Scbool, but it is a fact that sucb a phrase is not by any means empty praise, although it is perliaps drawing on imagination a little too much to say definitely that each succeeding coneert is better than the one wbicb bas gone before. In tbe past, sueh a high standard has been reached, tbat it would be a difficult matter to excel this standard, but it ean be said witb truth tbat the past has at least been equalled and so tbe high standard maintained. As far as children are .concerned it can be honestly said that nothing bette>- bas been heard and seen than tbe concert which was presented to sucb a crowded tlunicipal Theatr© last night, Every iteni was excellent and tbat it was really appreciated and enjoyed was proved by tbe continued rounds of applause. It was in this little operetta tbat tbe children really shona, and on© and all acquitted thefnselves with the ufcmost alrility, and it was not surprising that tbe final fall of tbe curtain was marked by rounds and. rounds of applause and the presentation of floral tributes, etc., to tbose wbo bad done so well. Only practice, careful tuition and' an exceptional interest in their work enabled tbe^ children to please so mucli, ancl their performance must rank not only as a eredit to themselves, but to their teachers and their school as well.
