Dr. Maokio, Superintendent of Iho Nelson Hospital, has obtained nine months' leave of nbsence, and intends proceeding to England at an early date. Dr. A. F. Bett has boon appointed locum tonens during Dr. Mackie's absence. Mr. W. 11. Triggs, editor of tlio Chiistchureh Press, and Mrs. and Miss Trißgs, arrived in Wellington to-day en route for Europe. Thoy wilt jjo on to Sydney by the Warrimoo, and leave for England via Suez, returning by way of America in about seven months' time. Mr. C E. Aldridge, Inspector of Factories and Awards for tho Nelson district, has received notice that he is to bo transferred to the head otKce at Wellington on promotion. Mr. Aldridge intends leaving Nelson about the end of the prosent.month. His successor has not yet transpired. Tho Waikato Times says that much of the success of tho Rotorua Band Contest \n\s duo tn tho committee ha.ving secured tho services of so excellent it judge as Lieut. Herd, Bandmaster of tho Wellington Garrison Band. The comxxjtitors and tho public alike appeared to liavo perfect confidenco in tho jusljce of his awards. Mr. P. Hutfion leaves by tho Warrunoo to-day on a vwut to Australia. While iv Australia, Mr. lfutson, who is tho President of the Wellington Industrial Association, will bring undor the notice of manufacturers and others the advantages of being represented at tho Exhibition, which is to W lveld under the auspices of his Association in November next.
