OPOTIKI UXDER WATER. [BY TELEOBATn— rHJESS ASSOCIATION.]' AUCKLAND, This Day. A serious flood occurred at Opotiki on Wednesday, news of which. haa been delayed by interruption of tho telegraph lino. Practically every inch of ground in the township was under water, which was 10ft to 12ft deep in somo parts. Lifeboats from tho steamers Mungnpupa nnd Waiotahi were engaged several hours in rescuing the residents from tho houses. Largo boats and Ahiori canoe« were rowed through all the streets, the water in tho main street being sft deep. A largo number are taking refuge' on the steamers nnd iii hotels. The damaged property will probably amount to somo thousands of pounds. Xo lives were lo^t. 1 JJMV PLYMOUTH, Thia Day. F,our inches of rain was registered this morning. There are heavy fieuhes in the rivers. * j The towu water supply was cut off for Borne hours owing to a break in the main through the collapse of a temporary support at Henui River crossing, whore the Hew bridge is under construction. Tho weather has now cleared.
