CORPORATION EMPLOYEES PICNIC.
The annual picnic- of the Corporation employees was held at the Railway I Grounds, Upper Hutt, on Saturday. A 1 special train from Te Aro, leaving at 9.30 a.m.,^"conveyed about 700 persons 1 to the picnic, and a most enjoyable day's 1 outing was spent. Attractions were provided in the shape of games and sports. The following were the results of the contests : — Men's race, over '45, Clark, 1 ; Sullivan, 2. Drivers' race} Hogan, 1 j Kerr, 2. Scavengers' race, Daley, 1 ; Dryer, 2. Married women's race, Mrs. Thompson, 1 ; Mrs. Jones, 2. Walking race, Byne, 1 ; M'Nally, 2. Single women's race, Miss M'Guire, 1. General hands' race (No. 1), Keenan, 1 ; Darrall, 2. Sack race, Cashman, l ; Hopkins, 2. Drainage race, Pingelly, 1; Harland, 2. Stone and basket race, Nelson, 1; Eagle, 2. General hands' (No. 2), Mahoney, 1 ; Bradbury, 2. Combined shops, Drew, 1 ; Kirby, 2. Tug-of-war, Women, Married v. Single : Single won. Coinmitteemen's race, Smith, 1 ; Darrall, 2. Throwing 161b shot, Calnan, 1 ; Home, 2. Three-legged race, Tibbet and Hill, 1; M'Nally and Tibbet, 2. General hands (No. 3), Thomas, 1 ; Calloway, 2. Bicycle race, Lancaster, 1; Ridding, 2. Dustmen's race, White, 1 ; Goodwin, 2. Wood-biocking-men's race, Casey, 1 ; M'Nally, 2. Open Handicap, Wyeth, 1 ; Sullivan, 2. Bandsmen's race, Barton, 1; Jupp, 2. Canvassers' race, Redding, 1 ; Drew, 2. Consolation ace, Evans, 1 ; King, 2. Tug-of-war : Calnan's team beat Council's team. The following officials had charge of tho sports: — Judges, ' Messrs. Kerslake, Dimes, Rabe; Handicappers, Messrs. Whiting, Smith; Starter, Williams, Bellman, Worth. The arrangements were carried out by a committee consisting of Messrs.
