. « IHISl HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. Large audiences are still the rule at bhis popular place of amusement, Mr. Tod CaUaway is an excellent fun-maker, Misses' Birdie Foley and Hermann Noela, , and dancers, are well worth seeing, and the "Merry Moments" sketch by Miss Florrie Leigh and Mr. Sam Wilson is.. much appreciated, as are also the Bongs of Miss Gertrude • Fraser, a recent addition to the company. All the other performers acquit themselves creditably, j and the programme as a whole is well up to the standard. .. .THEATRE ROYAL. The Howard Brothers' "thought transmission" seance still continues to mystify large audiences at the Theatre Royal, and Mr.> Percy Denton's "Premier" caricature v mirth-provoking. The spciety slfetch by Miss bylvester is well done, and her shiging and dancing are excellent. Mi^s Louie Byron's facial changes constitute a decided novelty, Mr.. Harry Shine sings a number of comic songs in capital style, Miss Alice Layton's ballad singing is always well worth hearing, and the other members of a numerous company acquit themselves with, ■much credit. MUSICAL UNION CONCERTS. The visiting soloiate — Miss Amy Murphy, of Dunedm, and Messrs. F. Graham and Hamilton Hodges, of Auckland — who are to take part in the coming cencert seaeon of the Wellington Musical Union, were present, and took part in last night's rehearsal of the chorus and orchestra in the lown Hall. Mr. Frank Graham, who is a tenor of repute from England, proved a decided acquisition for the concerts, his singing in '"rh« Spectre's Bride" rousing the enthusiasm of the chorus. Mr. Hodges and Muss Murphy were also in good voice. Another full rehearsal is to be held toaigbt, and the first concert is to be given on Friday next. WOODS-WILLIAMSuN COMPANY. The Woods- Williamson Dramatic Company will commence its return season at the Opera House on Saturday evening with "Barabbas." The principal characters in the play, Barabbas and Judith, will be in the hands of Mr. Alfred Woods and Miss Maud Williamson, and they will be supported by the full strength of the company. The scenery and mounting of the production are said to be on a high standard, new scenery having been specially painted during the company's season in Auckland. The boxplan for the season is now open at the Dresden. In St. Peter's Hall, Ghuznee-street, last night, the pupils of the Marist Brothers' School give their annual musical
and dramatic enteretainment. A number of glees were sung by the boys, and "Ben Bolt" was capitally given by Master Bernard Ryan, the school medallist for the year. Masters F. M'Ardle, C. Tandy, P. Hopkins, P. fShannahan, and G. M'Grath gave a humorous quintet, and a farce was played by Masters R. Fahy, C. Meacham, J. Dwyer, J. Scott, J. Devlin, T. Davis, and H. Corrigan. Miss Amy Hyde played the accompaniments, and items were given by an orchestra under Mr. F. J. Oakes. Two years a.go a number of the exmembers of the Wellington Naval Artillery met and decided to form an association for the purpose of maintaining their interest in the corps and promoting good fellowship. The Association at the end of the first year had 65 names on the roll. During the past year the membership has been increased to 153, and although the annual subscription is small the Association is in an excellent financial position. A meeting of the Association was held last night, Mr. W. A. G. Skinner in the chair, when arrangements were made for the annual dinner next month. At the conclusion of the business Mr. R. Davenport, who was the first Secretary of the Association, was voted to tho chair, and two hours were spent in <• a social manner. The healths of Lieut. -Colonel Duncan (President of the Association), Messrs. R. Couper (Hon. Secretary), S. Cimino, jun. (the youngest members of the Old Naval Brigade), and the Chairman were drunk with musical honours, and songs, recitations, etc., were given by Messrs. J. :P.: P. Murphy, G. Mundle, G* Taylor, Tinney, Daniel Skinner, David Skinner, G. Petherick, E. Rotheram, Murray, and Palethorpe. The concluding dance of the season will be held by the Red Rose Assembly in the Now Century Hall, Kent-terrace, on Thursday evening.
