Burnham (Captain Worth). She brought case oil and lumber all for Dunedin. The 'vessuS cleared San Francisco on the 20th August, and encountered the tail end of a heavy storm shortly after clearing the Golden Gate. Although the schooner was buffeted about considerably by big seas, she suffered no damage. The vessel was favoured with good sailing winds for the remainder of the voyage across the Paci-. fie until tho New Zealand coast was sigbtea a fortnight ago. She then encountered strong southerly winds, which prevented the vessel from making much progress south. She practically made the run from the Californian port to New Zealand in about 40, days, and but for- the delay on the coast she would have been credited with a record passage. This is the schooner's second visit to Dunedin ■ during the present year. Her previous trip from San Francisco occupied 70 days The schooner Fairbairn -with explosives from 'Auckland left Wellington for Dunedin on Saturday night. The Koraata. and, the Kakapo are due from ■Westport to-night. " The Kakapo is to load for Auckland, and the Komata will return to the West Coast The Kowhai, which is discharging coal and timber, is to return to Greymouth to-morrow According to an article in the Vorwarts, the German mercantile marine has during the war lost 800 vessels, aggregating about 2,000,000 tons gross, or more than 60 per cent, of the tonnage owned in 1914 (namely, 5,500,000 tons). ,
