FURTHER REMAND
EX-POLICE OFFICERS '
A further remand was asked for by Chief Detective Lopdell in. the Magistrate's Court this morning in the case of the two ex-po}ice constables, Wilfred Leonard Banim and. Hugh Eobertson Stevenson. Eamm is charged with having broken and entered the premises of C. Smith, Ltd., and stolen goods valued at £25, and Stevenson with- having received £12 11s 6d worth of the proceeds of the alleged burglary. Chief Detective Lopdell said that he was not ready to proceed with the case to-day. He would be ready to go ahead after to-day, but there was the. question of the Court holidays intervening. Mr. W. E. Leicester and Mr. E. E. Pope, who appeared for Kamin and Stevenson respectively, said they ,had no objection to a remand until 21st January. The Magistrate (Mr. E. Page) granted a remand until that date, and renewed the accuseds' bail.
Joseph Maurice White, who is charged with breaking and entering C. Smith's premises -with intent to commit a crime, and with having been found in possession of house-breaking instruments—a skeleton key and electric torch—was also Temanded until 21st January.
When the question of bail for White was raised, the Chief Detective said that the accused had no family ties. He was granted bail in self of £200 and two sureties of £200 each.
All three are to report daily to the police.
