CHRISTMAS BOX FOR THE ZOO

Some years ago the late Mr. J. Boyd; who for very many years had taken a. big interest in animals, to the extent of maintaining zoos at Auckland and Wangamu, lent a male lion to the Newtown Zoo, and there it has remaincu over since, a long loan, and a ?s»y «&- appreciated one. To-day Mr. F. Boy* and Mrs. Boyd, on behalf of the trustees of the estate of the late Mr. J. Boyd, inquired of Councillor B. G. H. Burn, chairman of the Reserves Committee, whether the council would accept the lion as a Christmas box. Councillor Burn replied that the council would be very pleased to accept the gift, and that he would bring the matter before his committee, the members of which, he was sure, would thoroughly appreciate the splendid Christmas igift to the Zoo.and the city.
