BRUTAL ASSAULT
WOMAN ATTACKED AND
ROBBED

. DARGAVILLE, This Day. A brutal assault was perpetrated-on Mrs. C. E. Bernard, of Paroro street, by a person who has not yet been, apprehended. On Saturday evening between .S and 9 o'clock Mrs. Bernard, who had been out shopping, was taking a short cut along the railway line to her home, when she was knocked down in Normanby street, where the railway crosses the road. Sho was picked up by Mrs. Thompson, who found that she was badly knocked about, her face bearing witness to the severe handling she had undergone. The assault was so violent that her false teeth were broken in several places. Robbery was evidently the object of the assault, as her handbag, which contained'money was missing.
Mrs. Bernard was taken to a friend's house, where medical aid was summoned, and it will be- some days before she will be able to be about again. So far no clue- of her assailant had been obtained.
