MILLIONAIRE'S GIFT
Mr. Louis Bambergor, founder and retiring president of L. Bamberger and Co., one of the largest department stores in America, sprang a surprise last month (says a Eeuter's message from Newark, New Jersey). He distributed moro than £200,000 in cash and annuities to 235. men and women who have been employed by the store fifteen years or more. Beyond stating that the sift was a reward for faithful service Mr Bamberger would make no comment' The employees were called into the private office of the philanthropist and presented personally with cheques. This action followed the recent announcement that the business of Messrs Bamberger, which last year had a turnover of over £7,000,000, has been acquired by, and is to be amalgamated with, E H. Macy ana Co., another largo department store, with a turnover of &18,-
