YESTERDAY AT ELLERSLIE
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "Tho Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. The No. 1 grass was available at .Ellerslie yesterday, and provided fast going. Tim lew norses who galloped all made smart times.
The outstauumg gallop was that of-Slur Stranger (Wiggins;, who finished well clear oi Hunting Cry (CammickJ, with Liosnawk U>- Jignt boy.) some lengths lurthcr back at tne conclusion of a round in imm JU l-ssec. This is one ot' the fastest gallops that has been registered on this particular track for some tune. The last mile was run in lmin 41 4-ssec, and the last four furlongs in 52 1-Osec. The conditions were all in favour of Star Stranger making last time, and he gamed an advantage early in having the inside running round the first turn. However, his gallop demonstrated that he is in great heart, and he is now certain to come into great favour for the Auckland Cup. Hunting Cry and Goshawk were not ridden out, and were allowed to ease alter going fast iv the early stages Knightlike and Cylinder went nicely over five furlongs in lmin Csec, aud wore together at the finish. Cylinder looks au improved colt, and may racy better than his form would suggest in the Great Northern Foal Stakes.
Royal Parade and White Fang dashed over four furlongs in SOsec, with very little between them at the finish. Royal Parade should be a good prospect for a hack race here.
Ciraabue, who trotted in the middle first, was under a pull while running six furlongs in lmin 19 4-ssec. He has never looked better, and may race prominently with all his weight in the Railway Handicap.
Panther and Historic were brought across "from Avondale to work at Ellerslie yesterday, but were not extended. Historic did strong work on the tan. He is very bright, and should strip well on Boxing Day.
Count Cavour has been displaying soreness since galloping on Saturday, and Duellona was another walking short yesterday morning. It is not likely to be known whether Count Cavour's trouble will seriously affect him until ,he has another, gallop.
The latest arrivals include Spearmiss, Aspiriug, Silvermiue, and Awaken.
Seatown is expected either on Monday or Tuesday.
A number of trotters with engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting have arrived in the past few days, and among them are Dilworth, Imprint, Sir Author, Writer, Kempton, Bessie Logan, Bonny Logan, Prince Pointer, Young Blake, Western Voyage, Elzear, and Concliff.
