TROTTING TRACK WORK
AT ALEXANDRA PARK
There was more doing at Epsom on Saturday morning than usual, and those who attended witnessed a couple of good work-outs, says the "Star." The track was in great order beforis breakfast, but a shower of rain did not Improve it, and it was not so fast afterwards.
Before breakfast A. Julian worked Explosion two miles. The chestnut was not out after time ,but he paced evenly all through. Belle Axworthy and Rolf» Audobonwere companions over a mile and a quarter. Both went uicely, and are ready for the meeting. Carmel, Native Prince, The Abbey, and All Bell were companions over a mile and a quarter. Carmel and Native Prince both went well, and finished in front of The Abbey. All Bell was some distance back.
Acre and Genuine were the first to be hoppled up after breakfast. They ran a mile and a quarter in 2min 59sec, but were not after time. The last mile took 2min 23 4-ssec.
Rose litngen (Julian) was sent two miles, and she did not put a foot wrong, giving a fine display of straightout trotting. She went the first half in lmin 17sec, mile 2min 28 3-Gsec, mile and a half 3inin 39 l-ssee, and two miles 4njin 4S 4-5 sec. She was not bustled over, the last half, and was easing up over the final furlong.
The Derby candidate Royal Silk was strapped up, but his task was not severe, and he jogged a mile in 2min 32sec. In a sprint for a furlong and a half from the home turn he showed speed. Parrish Bells and Prince Peterwah worked about a mile and a half. At the end, although the time was not good, Parrish Bells was going easily alongside her companion.
Haovanga 3?ai (Phipps) and Margaret Wallace (Sandall) were given steady pacing_ together for a couple of miles, after which Haeranga Pai continued on for another mile or so.
The most interesting work-out of the week was witnessed when Mountain Dell
(Mitchell) and Evelyn Locanda (Nightingale) stepped off at the two-mile peg. Waiting at the mile and a half were First Flight (Smith), and Benefice (Morrison). The two latter jumped off some lengths iv front of Mountain Dell and Evelyn Lbcanda, but there was not much between the four when they reached the mile and a quarter peg, where Vanity Boy (Webb) joined in. AH five were closely bunched as they entered the back, and they canie along in close company. Half a mile from home Benefice stepped clear to the front, while Mountain Dell dropped to the rear, but she moved up again neariug the home turn. Benefice was still in front into the straight, but then the others ranged up, and a great finish saw Vanity Boy, First Flight, Mountain Dell, and Evelyn Locanda go past the post almost in line, with Benefice, eased up, some lengths away. Mountain Dell and Evelyn Locauda paced the two miles in 4mm 3i
4-asec, the first half in lmin 8 'i-Tmv., mild in 2min 17sec, and mile and a half in .'lniiii 2Csee, a very attractive effort on tin: narl of both. First Flight went her n.ilo mul a half in 3mm 28 l-ssec, and Vanity Hoy
his mile and a quarter in 2min til I •!»«:(:. It was one of the most interesting workouts seen at tiie track for some time, and was just like a race. First Flight went much better than on Tuesday last.
The Derby candidate Purser was strapped up, but merely jogged v couple of rounds.
Concertina (Herring) and Kewpie's Guy (Gee) were sent a mile and a half. The first half was covered in lmin 12 4-ssec, mile in 2min 22 2-ssec, and Concertina the mile and a half in 3miu 31 2-ssec. Kcw-

half, being picked up over the last mile by Pavlova. The full distance was covered in 3min 37sec, and the last mile in 2min 21sec.
