"VERY SATISFACTORY"

THE DAIRYING YEAR

PRICES HIGHER THAN

EXPECTED

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

The year now drawing to a close must bo regarded as having been very satisfactory from the dairy producers' point of view," remarked Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., in an interview.

"The weather during last autumn and this season up to the present has been very favourable to big production, and the generous rainfall, coupled with the liberal use of fertiliser, resulted in a prolific growth of grass." Mr. Parlano said that quite recently he had had an opportunity of inspecting a number of farms in the Atiamuri and Eeparoa districts. The results achieved through the use of fertiliser in that light pumice country were simply astounding. He prophesied a future for the districts.

"Prices, too," said Mr. Parlane, "have been reasonably good, and they have ranged at a higher level than was anticipated, this being largely due to dry seasons in the Argentine and Australia curtailing production in those countries. However, prices are now declining, and as Australia is reported to be experiencing a very good season for production, it appears that lower prices for butter can be looked for for some months to come. "We have been fortunate in securing a satisfactory market in Canada this season, and for a very large quantity of New Zealand butter, which has resulted in the British market being relieved considerably."

In regard to cheese, Mr.. Parlane stated that the forward position appeared reasonably satisfactory.

If asked to say what he considered the most important happening during the year in the dairy industry, said Mr. Parlane, he would unhesitatingly say it was the setting up of the Empire Dairies Marketing Organisation. I This company had experienced a most successful year. As proof of the growth of business, the advance payment on 20th December aggregated approximately £600,000, which was a record for the company-.
