RUGBY, 21st December
It is anticipated that there will be many close divisions during the Committee stage in the House of Commons of tho Government's Coal Mines Bill, which passed its second reading by a majority of S.
"The Times" states that tho Government is prepared to make substantial1 concessions on tho marketing section of the Bill.
The "Daily Herald" fears that protracted- proceedings in Committee may hold up the business to such an extent as to endanger the Government's legislative proposals. Discussing the demands for changes in the Bill, the "Herald" says that some of these come from certain of the Government's supporters, and adds: "Doubtless there will be overtures and conversations, and perhaps before these are begun the Government will be able to satisfy itself and its opponents on tf.e disputed question of whether there is or is not existing statutory power to compel amalgamations among colliery companies." .
