Barometers continued to rise yesterday as the cyclone moved away eastward. Winds remained strong and the change to south-westerlies or southerUes gradually made its way over the whole country. Conditions were boisterous in the tar north and on the east coast from Kaikoura southwards. Most districts reported scat-tered-rains this morning, the greater part falling during the night, time. Falls were again heavy at numbers of places, especially on the east coast of the South Island. Christchurch had the unusually heavy fall of 1.9S inches. Rivers are high in parts of the South Island and this fact, combined with Uie heavy tfttes ruling, caused some anxiety, but no actual flooding is reported. Temperatures have fallen considerably, especially in the South Island.
