MULCRA GETS HOME
PHAR LAP NOT EXTENDED
United Press AssociaUon-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Ist March. The weather was fine and bright for the opening of- the V.R.C. Autumn Meetin| at Flemington. The going was good "ml there was a satisfactory attendance. Dookie led all the way in the Hurdles, and?woa easily. The hot favourite, Carwoola, fell at the first hurdle, There was an exciting, finish in the Sires' Produce Stakes, in. which Mulcra finished fast and won m the last stride. This is bis first success and he gjves promise of being a stayer.- . ' Phar Lap led in the last nine furlongs of the Essendon Stakes and was not extended. Glare was a bad >st early in the race but finished strongly. Phar Lap
has now won £50,702 in stakes. Jockey J Pike had won the Essendon btakea previously on The Hawk and Pendant. _ Parkwood had a brilliant victory m the Newmarket .Handicap, in which he led all the way, just defeating the fast iuiislnng Waterlice. Mollison was always prominent and was a good third. Parkwood was the leading juvenile o£ his season, but his form lately has been unreliable. llis trainer is veteran Prank Musgvave,- who won the Newmarket with Amata m 191b. It is-a coincidence that there were also thirty-two starters in that season. Veilmond, who wass third early, took charge in the straight in the St. Lcger, and won nicely. He was ridden by the New Zealander, M. M'Carten. His tram/ er" is George Price, who also prepared the' third horse. Carry On. . Tbe Australian Cup candidate, St. Mary, had an impressive win in the Brunswick Stakes, in which Induna ■ and Nadean showed improved form. St. Mary is owned and trained at Adelaide by J. M. Cummings.
