CHRISTCHURCH UNEMPLOYED.

CHBISTCHTJRCH, July 23. The mayor granted the unemployed a permit for a procession conditionally on no banners beyond "We want work" being carried, and that the procession was conducted in an orderly fashion. Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P., received a telegram from Mr Carroll (Acting Prime Minister), hi reply to a request that the Government sliould help the Chrjstchurch unemployed, stating that the Government could not subsidise local works, but were doing the best they could so far as public works were concerned. He had referred the local Vojke mentioned to the Minister of Work*.
