PETROL SHORTAGE
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA (Rec. 1.20 p.m.) CANBERRA, October 10. The Minister of Supply, Air Beasley, announced that Air Curtin would appeal directly to Mr Churchill to make more tankers available to Australia. Mr Beasley said Australia urgently needed a more favourable basis than that now operating. Because of the petrol shortage the supply department was recalling thousands of consumers’ licenses in all States. A new system had been introduced which would compel motorists holding private stocks to draw upon them.
