STOLE FROM BEFRIEMDER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 10. John Leadbeater (45), a bootmaker, was sentenced by. Mr Justice Ostler in the Supremo Court to two years with hard labour. Prisoner had pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to breaking, entering, 1 and theft at Titahr Bay, but to-day reversed the plea. The Judge said the prisoner had approached the occupier of the dwelling concerned with a hard) luck story about not haring' enough money to get a bed for the night. The householder took him to his place at Titahi Bay, fed him, gave him a, bed, and treated him like a brother. Three days later prisoner returned with another man and rifled the house, stealing £6O worth of goods. “ I don’t think there is any reason to show mercy to you, especially in view of the fact that you. hare 23 or 24 previous convictions involving dishonesty,” said the Judge.
