TOWN EDITION
BY NEW ZEAL AN DEBS. DID XOT RISE TO THE OCCASION. (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). (Received June 15, 1 p.m.) London, Juno 1-1. Although the wicket was somewhat worn, it played truly enough, and consequently the New Zealanders display was a great disappointment. Blunt played a restrained and confident game, but Lowry failed to settle down. He attempted one big hit,' hut mistimed it so badly that lie fell hack" on the defensive, game. A red irr and Dacre established a partnership- which promised for a while to save the game. Alcdirr, who realised his responsibility, batted especially well, but still lull oi confidence. He scored 11 ironi one of Jupp’s overs. Dacre hit a sixer and then) (ell to a. shooter. The batting after lunch was rather scratchy, and the game readied an undistinguished conclusion. The Northants bowling was steady and of good length.. The bowlers sometimes got much work on, the ball, bit! this did not account for the New Zealanders’ poor showing. The match, however, will long be remembered at Kettering for its sporting qualities.
